Tom Brady's First Tweet Announces His 'Retirement' on April Fools

New England Patriots Victory Parade

After joining Twitter last month, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady sent out his first tweet announcing that he was "retiring" from football.

The six-time Super Bowl winner sent out his first tweet to fans on Monday (April 1st), writing: "I'm retiring. In my spare time, I'll be tweeting #LFG"

A lot of digital ink has been spilled by sports writers who have tried to guess when the 41-year-old Brady will be ready to retire, so for those who forgot Monday was April Fools, the story all too real.

Brady's tweet received more than 10,000 retweets and more than 20,000 likes in its first hour.

A little over an hour later, Brady tweeted for the second time, letting his followers in on the deception writing, "Was this a bad joke?"

Fresh from his victory in Super Bowl LIII against the L.A. Rams, Brady shows no sign of slowing down in his 20th season, even hinting in an interview last June with NFL.com that he planned on playing football until he was 45.

Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski announced his retirement in a lengthy Instagram post last month after nine seasons in the NFL.
